Customer update – EU ETS – EU Emission Trading System (Update)

As announced in July, the EU ETS for the Maritime sector will come into force starting on January 1, 2024.

This new compliance-based carbon price measure will impact Samskip's routes within Europe and the UK. To maintain our transparency with all our customers, this carbon tax will be applied as a separate charge over and above the base freight rate.

The application of the EU ETS will be implemented gradually in three phases, as outlined below:

• In 2024, 40% of emissions will be included.
• In 2025, 70% of emissions will be included.
• Starting from 2026, the system will cover 100% of emissions.

The expected prices, per unit, in January 2024 are as follows:

The final price applied for each different trade will be communicated to you on December 15, 2023.

The prices will be updated every month based on the Emission Units Allowances (EUAs) average price for the previous month considering the ICE Dec24 contract.
