Samskip Opens a New Trade Era: Morocco–Europe Service Officially Comes to Life
13 November 2025
November marks more than a date on the calendar. It marks the moment a vision becomes reality. With the official launch of Samskip’s Morocco–Europe shortsea service, our connection with the region is no longer an announcement, it is a living trade corridor carrying opportunity, growth and partnership across continents.
What began in Agadir with the first celebration has now been fully activated through the official Casablanca launch, signaling to the market that the service is ready to move all cargo types with confidence. From refrigerated goods to industrial cargo, from consumer products to construction materials, this new route was built for real trade, real scale and real ambitions.
With weekly departures from both Agadir and Casablanca, cargo now flows directly to the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, connecting Moroccan exporters with more than 30 commercial destinations in Europe. Through Rotterdam and our extended multimodal network, shipments continue door to door across Ireland, the Nordics, Central Europe and the UK, without complexity or delay. One booking, one partner, one seamless logistics chain.
Agadir remains the stronghold of fresh and frozen produce, while Casablanca has emerged as the gateway for Morocco’s full spectrum exports. Here, we see the true identity of this service come to life. In one sailing you may find reefer containers of citrus and tomatoes sailing alongside dry cargo such as automotive components, packaging, chemicals, machinery or construction materials, all handled with the same precision and speed that our customers rely on.
“This connection was designed from the start to give every cargo type the same access to European trade routes,” said Ólafur Orri Ólafsson, Chief Business Officer at Samskip. “Whether it is a reefer box of fruit or a container of industrial goods, our focus stays the same: reliability, sustainability and customer success.”
The Casablanca celebration reflected a moment of pride, but also a message of intent. Samskip is not stepping into Morocco for a season, we are investing for the long term, supported by our local team on the ground who understands the market, speaks the language and stands beside our customers as partners, not just providers.
By shifting cargo from road to sea, Moroccan exporters benefit from reduced emissions of up to 80 percent compared to traditional transport. This service is not only faster and more predictable, it also aligns with the growing demand for greener trade corridors between Africa and Europe.
Each departure now carries much more than containers. It carries connection, economic strength and the shared ambition to make Morocco a strategic logistics hub. With the largest European multimodal network behind it, dedicated local teams and a service built for growth, the Morocco–Europe route stands ready to support everything from daily exports to long-term industrial development. And, this is only the beginning.
