Another Samskip Milestone: Iceland Trade Route Strengthened via Matrans Terminal
4 February 2025
Samskip’s commitment to optimizing trade routes and delivering reliable, sustainable logistics solutions took a major step forward with the first Iceland-bound vessel calling at Matrans Terminal, Rotterdam. This milestone signifies the success of Samskip’s strategic decision to consolidate operations at Matrans, creating a central hub for multimodal transport and reinforcing supply chain efficiency.
The vessel Helgafell arrived at Matrans at 23:00 last week from Iceland and the Faroe Islands, marking the integration of Samskip’s Iceland service into the terminal’s operations. Early the next afternoon, the vessel departed heading to Cuxhaven (Germany), Gothenburg (Sweden), Aarhus (Denmark), and then back to the Faroe Islands. The primary cargo for this trade lane is fresh and frozen seafood, ensuring fast, reliable transit between Northern Europe and Iceland.
By shifting key trade routes including the Oslofjord, the Baltic Sea and Iceland through Matrans Terminal, Samskip is creating a more streamlined, sustainable, and customer-centric logistics network. The move enhances control over vessel, rail, and barge operations, reducing bottlenecks and ensuring seamless modal transitions.
Samskip’s roots in Iceland run deep, and this expansion reaffirms our commitment to delivering efficient, multimodal logistics solutions that support Icelandic trade and beyond. With Matrans as a hub, we continue to drive innovation in green logistics, ensuring optimized operations for both existing and future customers.
