TU Solar Boat Team becomes World Champion 2019

We are happy to announce that the TU Solar Boat Team, sponsored by Samskip, has become World Champion.

The TU Solar Boat Team has won the world championship for solar boat racing on the open sea, after a race of 90 km in Monaco during the past weekend. The TU Delft Solar Boat Team participated in the offshore class for the first time in the team's history, making them the first Dutch team to race on the open sea with a solar boat.

It wasn't all smooth sailing for the team. After several setbacks, such as a hydrofoil, which broke off during the final tests for Monaco on the IJsselmeer, and a problem with the electrical system around the solar panels, the team still managed to become world champion.

The team doesn’t get any time to rest because in two weeks they hope to set a world record by crossing the Channel as quickly as possible from Calais in France to Dover in England. We once again wish them good luck and lots of sun!

As Samskip strives for a better world and cares for sustainable transport solutions, we are always looking for new initiatives to support our cause. By our unique way of combining transport modalities, we reduce CO2 emissions and leave a positive footprint on our planet.
