Today we say goodbye to our Samskip Frost

Samskip Frost is a reefer vessel build 1985 in Rissa, Norway and was a valued asset to our fleet. After 35 years of service the time has come to redrew the vessel in the most efficient and environmentally friendly way. Together with the specialized ship recycling consultants from Sea2Cradle we selected the Norwegian company Green Yard AS for disassembling and recycling.

“Today, Green Yard has taken over "Samskip Frost" for the purpose of recycling the ship. Green Yard is proud to have been selected for this assignment and sees this as a breakthrough for our recycling business. The fact that shipping companies now choose our environmental method is something that promises well for the future. Samskip Frost will arrive at Green Yard during week 4 and will be towed from Fredrikstad to us using FFS MARINE's tug boat Amaranth.” says Hans Jørgen Fedog, Green Yard.

Part of the disassembling process is to carry out an inventory check of hazardous material, safe & environmentally friendly processing of this material and to follow up on a so-called “Ship Recycle Plan” including verification.

Following delivery of the vessel and the arrival at Green Yard, Samskip and Sea2Cradle can access at any time the shipbreaking yard to ascertain that safe and environmentally sound practices are being conducted in respect of the demolition and recycling of the vessel.

We are always preoccupied to limit the impact our vessels have on the environment from the moment they become part of our fleet until the end. Samskip Frost served well our clients for a long period of time but now is time for the next generation of sustainable shortsea shipping, like the one we are building in Norway- ‘Seashuttle’- autonomous, zero-emissions container ship that also competes on cost.” says Erik Hofmeester, Director Vessel Fleet Samskip.

Green Yard carries out and is certified for green recycling of ships and rigs in accordance with national and international agreements and regulations. Their recycling process ensures that both working and environmental conditions are met satisfactorily. Most of the recycling takes place indoors to minimize the risk of emissions to the environment. Modern and innovative tools with minimal emissions provide a good working environment with less noise and dust to the surroundings.

With over fifteen years of experience and a track record of over 160 successful projects, Sea2Cradle is a global expert in environmentally sound and safe ship recycling. We help ship owners to handle the recycling of their ship, rig, platform or FPSO responsibly. All our projects adhere to the highest standards of Health, Safety and Environment.
