In the Spotlight: The Norway Service
In this edition of “In the spotlight” we will highlight our short sea service between Norway and the rest of Europe as well as the Norwegian organization. For many shippers Norway is a highly interesting country and it looks like it will keep this status in the upcoming years. By offering frequent services to and from six different ports in Norway, Samskip is able to offer a cost efficient and environmentally friendly transport solution. Read on for some of the latest news on our Norwegian service and get to know the faces behind the “Norwegian” voices.
Norway, a country not to be overlooked
Starting long ago with the Vikings, we may say Norway has always dared to sail its own course. And it seems the country is still doing so, by guarding its independency and not joining the European Union and Eurozone. So far, we must admit the country developed well under these strategies. With its size of 385.155 square kilometers, population of 4.6 million and stable economy Norway is for sure not a country to be overlooked.
A logistical challenge?
For exporting and importing companies, the local currency, custom regulations, extensive size and cold northern climate can sometimes be seen as a logistical challenge. However with its local organization, indepth market knowlegde and extensive transport services, Samskip will be able to assist in offering a first class service.
Multimodal Container Logistics: The Norway service
The Samskip services on Norway are completely integrated into Samskip's Pan-European multimodal service network. Frequent sailings connect Olso, Moss, Kristiansand, Fredrikstad, Brevik and Larvik with Rotterdam. Various places on the West Coast of Norway are easy accessable via good railconnections. From Rotterdam connections can be made with Samskip's extensive service network to destinations throughout Europe such as the UK, Italy, Ireland, Spain, Portugal and Russia.
Time and Cost Efficient
The Friday departure from Rotterdam offers a very time efficient service as cargo can be delivered in Norway on Monday. Thanks to some recent schedule improvements our second vessel arrives in Oslo on Thursday midday (1200 am). This new schedule ensures that also this cargo can be delivered at the customer before the weekend: again minimizing the practical transit time. In Rotterdam the service calls on the RST South terminal, enabling cargo to be transshipped onto other Samskip MCL routes (UK service, Irish service and Iberia service)

More than Door-to-Door servicesBesides Door-to-Door services, we also offer Quay-Quay and Feeder services on the Norwegian route. Embarking from both the ECT Delta and the RST terminal in Rotterdam, Samskip offers feeder customers the possibility to connect their deep-sea cargo to various ports in Norway. As custom clearance is highly relevant for all Norwegian transports, Samskip A/S offers its customers in house custom clearances. * Samskip also offers frequent connections between the ports in Norway and Bremerhaven and Hamburg in Germany |
