Information about transporting personal effects
To ensure that your personal effects arrive safely at their destination, the following points need to be considered:
Customs clearance
Personal effects need to be cleared by customs when entering the country. This is done by presenting an arrival notification and contents list of the shipment, and filling out an E-8 form at the Tollmiðstöðin at Héðinsgata 10, 105 Reykjavík, or at the customs authorities in the respective district where the shipment has been delivered. When permission has been received from the customs authorities, it must be handled to Samskip’s office at Kjalarvogur and make final arrangement.
When can the personal effects be delivered?
Personal effects in FCL container should be ready for delivery 24 hours after the ship arrives. If the personal effects take up less than a container (LCL), it should be ready by 14.00 on Friday. The arrival date can be seen on the consignment number. For example: S ARN 06087 DE CUX W002, means that the ship arrives on 6 August 2007.
Payment of transport charges
Customs clearance documentation must be presented to the cashier when making payment. Samskip offers VISA or EUROCARD installment payments for Icelandic credit cards when requested.
Home delivery
Samskip offers home delivery of personal effects. The cashier provides price information for this service. If the personal effects are in a whole container,(FCL) most customers choose to have it delivered to their home and left behind. When it has been emptied, notify the customer service department at tel. +354 458 8000 or customer.service@samskip.com and the container will be picked-up at the first opportunity.
There is no charge for storing the personal effects for the first 7 days after the ship arrives, whether the articles arrived in a partial or whole container.
