Relocating to Norway

Samskip emphasises personal service for customers transporting personal effects.  However, there are many things to consider.

1. Quantity: How much volume are you transporting? Here you can calculate the cubic measure of your personal effects. Note: if the quantity is 16 cubic meters or more, it is cheaper to lease a container.

2. Offer: In order to get a formal quotation for the transport, please fill out the quote request.

Please fill in all required fields along with shipment´s volume.

3. Documents required:

  • Booking and contents list (packinglist) forms must be filled out while the personal effects are being packed. It is important to mark all boxes with the name, address and phone number of the receiver. It is advisable to examine the contents list before beginning to pack, and use it as a guide while labeling. Note: the list is in English or in the language of the destination country. Booking and contents lists shall be submitted to Samskip in Reykjavík before departure.

The booking and contents list must include:

  • Precise address in Norway along with phone number
  • Norwegian ID number (If a Norwegian ID number has not been applied for, a copy of a driver's license or passport must be submitted). If a Norwegian ID number has not been received, Norwegian customs authorities will not authorize the turning over of personal effects to the receiver in Norway.

A Norwegian bill of entry must be filled in

The receiver of personal effects in Norway must sign a bill of entry.

  • If for some reason the receiver cannot sign, then the responsible party for the personal effects is permitted to sign on behalf of the receiver.

The above-stated documents must be submitted to Samskip in Reykjavík prior to departure.

 4. Booking transport: All transport must be booked at Samskip´s customer service, tel. +354 458 8000.

5. Closing times:

Samskip Reykjavik:

LCL (Less than container load) Tuesdays 16.00

FCL (Full container load) Wednesday 12:00*

 * When exporting full containerloads (FCL) from Iceland, the owner of the shipment is responsible for getting a cargo security seal from an appointed cargo security representative.  Unsealed export containers will not be accepted by Samskip.  The companies “Pokkun og flutningar” and “P. Arnason” assist with providing cargo security declaration.

6. Payment: When exporting from Iceland, payment for transport and related services must be finalised no later than two days before vessel departure.

7. Vessel´s arrival: The owner of the shipment must keep track of vessel´s arrival and be in contact with Samskip to finish the final steps of the transport process.

8.  Detention, demurrage and warehouse charges: Detention, demurrage and warehouse charges vary between ports.  The nearest Samskip office or agent in the destination country can provide information on local charges.

Communication between the owner of the personal effects and personal vehicles and the customs authorities in Norway is always the responsibility of the owner.

When authorization from customs authorities has been received, and all payment arrangements have been made with Samskip, the owner of the personal effects/personal vehicles can receive clearance by contacting Samskip in Norway.
