Instructions for transporting personal effects

To ensure that your personal effects reach your home, the following points need to be considered:

Customs clearance

Personal effects need to be cleared by customs when entering a country. An arrival notice and list of contents must be presented, and form E-8 filled in. This is done at the Directorate of Customs at Héðinsgata 10, 105 Reykjavík, or at the customs authority in the respective district. When clearance has been approved by the customs authority, payment arrangements can be made with Samskip’s cashier at Kjalarvogur.

When are personal effects ready for delivery?

Personal effects that fill a full container should be ready for delivery 24 hours after the vessel arrives. If the personal effects take part of a container, then they should be ready for delivery before 12 noon on Friday. Arrival days are part of the transport number on the announcement. For example: S ARN 06085 DE CUX W002 means that the ship arrives on 6 August 2005 (06085).

Payment for transport

A delivery certificate from the customs authority must be presented to the cashier when making payment. Samskip offers either VISA or EUROCARD installment payments if requested.

Home deliver

Samskip offers home delivery of personal effects. The cashier provides price information for this service. If the personal effects are in a whole container, most customers choose to have it delivered to their home where it is left behind. When the container has been emptied, just phone the service department at +354 458 8000 and the container will be picked up at the first opportunity.

Storing personal effects is free for the first 7 days after the ship arrives, regardless of whether the personal effects are in bulk or in a whole container.

For further information, phone the service department at +354 458 8000.
