Relocating to Germany
Samskip emphasises personal service for customers transporting personal effects. However, there are many things to consider.
1. Quantity: How much volume are you transporting? Here you can calculate the cubic measure of your personal effects. Note: if the quantity is 16 cubic meters or more, it is cheaper to lease a container.
2. Offer: In order to get a formal quotation for the transport, please fill out the quote request.
Please fill in all required fields along with shipment´s volume.
3. Documents required:
- Booking and contents list (packinglist) forms must be filled out while the personal effects are being packed. It is important to mark all boxes with the name, address and phone number of the receiver. It is advisable to examine the contents list before beginning to pack, and use it as a guide while labeling. Note: the list is in English or in the language of the destination country. Booking and contents lists shall be submitted to Samskip in Reykjavík before departure.
-
A bill of entry must be filled in that must also be submitted to Samskip prior to departure, along with the following documents:
- Copy of Icelandic passport.
- Copy of domicile rental agreement.
- Confirmation from employer regarding employment/confirmation of school enrollment from a school.
Applications for residence permits are made at town hall in the destination town, and the following documents must be included:
- Passport.
- Domicile rental agreement or hotel registration.
- Confirmation from a place of work or school regarding employment or school enrollment.
The following documents must be submitted to the customs authorities in Germany:
- Residence permit in Germany (if it is not ready, then a special confirmation must be obtained from the respective town hall stating that the residence permit is being processed).
- Passport (customs authority makes a photocopy).
- Confirmation of domicile/rental agreement.
- Confirmation from a place of work or school regarding employment or school enrollment.
These documents must be submitted to the customs authorities' office in the respective place, and customs clearance takes at least 24 hours. Customs clearance for personal effects and automobiles is always the responsibility of the owner.
When authorization from customs authorities has been received, and all payment arrangements have been made with Samskip, the owner of the personal effects/automobile can receive clearance in person or have them delivered by contacting Samskip in Germany.
Note: delays can occur during customs clearance in Germany if a residence permit has not been applied for prior to transport.
4. Booking transport: All transport must be booked at Samskip´s customer service, tel. +354 458 8000.
5. Closing times:
Samskip Reykjavik:

6. Payment: When exporting from Iceland, payment for transport and related services must be finalised no later than two days before vessel departure.
