Relocating to Germany
Samskip encourages shippers of personal effects to prepare the move well, and fill out all necessary documents before the personal effects are delivered to Samskip.
Personal effects - Forms
Booking and contents list forms must be filled out while the personal effects are being packed. It is important to mark all boxes with the name, address and phone number of the receiver. It is advisable to examine the contents list before beginning to pack, and use it as a guide while labeling. Note: the list is in English or in the language of the destination country.
Booking and contents lists shall be submitted to Samskip in Reykjavík before departure.
A bill of entry must be filled in that must also be submitted to Samskip prior to departure, along with the following documents:
- Copy of Icelandic passport.
- Copy of domicile rental agreement.
- Confirmation from employer regarding employment/confirmation of school enrollment from a school.

It is important to have the automobile insured during transport.
Before departure, the following documents must be submitted to Samskip in Reykjavík:
- Copy of the automobile’s registration.
- Copy of an international insurance card (green card). It is important that the original card is in the possession of the person who receives the automobile in the foreign harbor.

- The automobile owner is required to register the vehicle at the place of destination.
Note: automobile owners may be required to pay customs duties and other fees on their cars.
These documents must be submitted to the customs authorities’ office in the respective place, and customs clearance takes at least 24 hours. Customs clearance for personal effects and automobiles is always the responsibility of the owner.
When authorization from customs authorities has been received, and all payment arrangements have been made with Samskip, the owner of the personal effects/automobile can receive clearance in person or have them delivered by contacting Samskip in Germany.
Note: delays can occur during customs clearance in Germany if a residence permit has not been applied for prior to transport.
