Relocation to Sweden

Samskip emphasises personal service for customers transporting personal effects.  However, there are many things to consider.

1. Quantity: How much volume are you transporting? Here you can calculate the cubic measure of your personal effects. Note: if the quantity is 16 cubic meters or more, it is cheaper to lease a container.  

2. Offer: In order to get a formal quotation for the transport, please fill out the quote request.

Please fill in all required fields along with shipment´s volume.

3. Documents required:

  • Booking and contents list (packinglist) forms must be filled out while the personal effects are being packed. It is important to mark all boxes with the name, address and phone number of the receiver. It is advisable to examine the contents list before beginning to pack, and use it as a guide while labeling. Note: the list is in English or in the language of the destination country. Booking and contents lists shall be submitted to Samskip in Reykjavík before departure.
  • A Swedish ID number must first be applied for.
  • A Swedish ID number can be applied for at town hall (Skatteverket) of the destination town.

  • Customs clearance in Sweden is never permitted unless a Swedish ID number, or application for such, is presented.
  • A Swedish bill of entry must be filled in. The receiver of personal effects in Norway must sign the bill of entry. If for some reason the receiver cannot sign, then the responsible party for the personal effects is permitted to sign on behalf of the receiver.

    The above-stated documents must be submitted to Samskip in Reykjavík prior to departure.

4. Booking transport: All transport must be booked at Samskip´s customer service, tel. +354 458 8000. 

5. Closing times: 

Samskip Reykjavik:

LCL (Less than container load) Tuesdays 16.00


FCL (Full container load) Wednesday 12:00*

6. Payment: When exporting from Iceland, payment for transport and related services must be finalised no later than two days before vessel departure.

7. Vessel´s arrival: The owner of the shipment must keep track of vessel´s arrival and be in contact with Samskip to finish the final steps of the transport process.

8.  Detention, demurrage and warehouse charges: Detention, demurrage and warehouse charges vary between ports.  The nearest Samskip office or agent in the destination country can provide information on local charges.

Please note:

  • Communication between the owner of an personal vehicles and the customs authorities in Sweden is always the responsibility of the owner.
  • The personal vehicles must be cleared by Swedish customs authorities in Gothenburg.

Please familiarize yourself with customs clearance regulations for personal vehicles at the Swedish customs in Gothenburg. It is possible to make an appointment by phoning them at +463 31 64 4800, and they will inform you as to what documents must be presented.

When authorization from customs authorities has been received, and all payment arrangements have been made with Samskip, the owner of the personal effects/personal vehicles can receive clearance by contacting Samskip in Sweden.

Customs clearance in Sweden is never permitted unless a Swedish ID number or application for such is presented.
