Samskip’;s domestic division in Iceland offers domestic transport and transport-related services of all types by land. The core services include warehousing and handling, inland transportation & logistics and distribution of goods in the Reykjavík area.
Operations overview
Operations are managed from the headquarters in Reykjavík and local service offices all around Iceland. Among the division’;s customers are contractors and construction builders, retailers, wholesalers, domestic manufacturers all over Iceland and international Samskip offices.
The division operates a fleet of approximately 70 trucks and trailers for inland transportation and approximately 30 smaller trucks and vehicles that handle distribution and pickup services in the Reykjavík area. The division aspires to ensure the safety of food products during transportation and storage and for that purpose it has implemented active internal control based on the Hazardous Analysis Critical Control Points quality standard (HACCP).
Scheduled transportation network
Landflutningar-Samskip operates an efficient transportation network with scheduled transports to 75 locations in Iceland, of which 57 have daily departures from Reykjavík. Delivery of goods to their final destination is in most cases within 24 hours from reception. Internal processes and procedures ensure that each product category gets appropriate handling, e.g all trucks enable the transportation of fresh and frozen food merchandise as well as dry goods and hazardous loads.
Distribution and door-to-door services
Landflutningar-Samskip offers door to door services in collecting and distributing goods. The division operates a fully developed distribution network in Reykjavík which services some of the largest food retailers in Reykjavík with their inbound logistics from all over the country.
Forwarding
Landflutningar-Samskip also services Samskip’;s export and import clients and provides door-to-door transport for full loads and LCL shipments all around Iceland. The division offers tailor-made solutions adapted to specific requirements of unique projects or transports.
Warehousing
The domestic division takes pride in operating the largest single warehouse facility in Iceland today. The warehouse is located by Samskip’;s main operations area at Kjalarvogur in Reykjavík, and offers full warehouse services such as storage and handling, inventory control and logistics for local merchandise and imports. The warehouse department builds its expertise on years of experience, and has been operating since 1993.
Ferry operations
Landflutningar-Samskip also operates Saefari, a passenger ferry, in the north of Iceland between the main Eyjafjörður communities and Grimsey island.
