Service schedule

Samskip operates four vessels in its Iceland and Faroe Islands service: Arnarfell and Helgafell (blue route), Akrafell and Hvassafell (green route) on weekly schedules between Iceland, the Faroe Islands, the UK, the European mainland and Scandinavia.

Iceland and Faroe Islands route

Samskip offers professional and reliable 24-hour service for all vessels, including discharging, transport, storage in a hi-tech reefer centre, and related services for factory trawlers and fishing vessels. Samskip also offers break bulk services, arranging vessels for special purposes and agency services for vessels in port.

A new and technically sophisticated 27,000m2 logistics centre is situated in Samskip headquarters in Reykjavik. The logistics centre stores dry, frozen and chilled goods, drinks, chemicals, oils, etc., mostly for Icelandic importers.

Samskip terminals

portSamskip operates its own container terminals at Holtabakki in Reykjavik. The Holtabakki terminals is a transit hub for all cargo moved by Samskip to and from Iceland.

Samskip's warehouses and cold stores are located at the terminals.
A container repair workshop, mechanical workshop, electrical workshops, PTI and a cleaning station for containers are operated by Samskip at the terminals.

The terminals are equipped with a Liebherr LHM 400 mobile container crane that is backed up by a fleet of six reach-stackers, two empty container handlers and a number of terminals tractors. The reach-stackers and tractors are equipped with onboard computers and are online to the terminals IT system. The Liebherr LHM crane has a lifting capacity of up to 104 t, which offers excellent flexibility when handling project cargo. The average capacity, when handling containers, is 22 moves/hour.
There is a landing berth for trawlers equipped with a movable discharging-shelter at the terminals.

Samskip offers discharging of trawlers directly into its cold store and into containers. There are about 200 reefer plug points at the terminal.
All trucking of containers to and from customers within the Reykjavik area is organised at the terminal.

Domestic transportation

Samskip has built a unique system with a large fleet of trucks in a comprehensive transport network under the Landflutningar-Samskip banner, which reaches practically all domestic destinations within 24 hours. The head office is in Reykjavík, and regional offices and agents are located all over the country.

Samskip also operates the Saefari ferry, sailing from Dalvik to the offshore islands of Grimsey and Hrisey.

Reefer centre and warehousing

Samskip also offers break bulk services, arranging vessels for special purposes and agency services for vessels in port.

Ísheimar, Samskip reefer centre in Reykjavík, is technically sophisticated and meets stringent requirements regarding the storage, handling and examination of frozen food products.

The reefer logistics centre offers cold storage for 3,000 pallets in racks,a bulk cargo facility for up to 3,000 pallets, with a hi-tech IT system for fast track and trace.

From simple, open storage areas to dry storage and temperature-controlled storage, Samskip offers the right housing solutions. Distribution concepts are developped in cooperation with our customers and partners.

Samskip subsidiary, Jonar Transport, is a forwarding company with offices in Samskip's Reykjavík headquarters.
Jonar Transport offers worldwide freight forwarding by sea and air, along with documentation and customs clearance.
