Samskip sponsors UNICEF in Iceland
Samskip has signed an agreement with UNICEF Iceland to donate ISK 12 million (approx. EUR 130.000) over the next three years. UNICEF Iceland was first established two years ago with seed capital provided by Samskip and Baugur Group. They have now been joined by three other corporate sponsors – FL Group, Fons and Glitnir - that will provide a total of ISK 60 million (approx. EUR 660.000) through 2009. Samskip also supports UNICEF in other ways, for instance by distributing Christmas cards.
"This commitment guarantees our continued support of children in dire need," said Stefán Ingi Stefánsson, executive director of UNICEF Iceland, at the signing ceremony. Long-term corporate alliances are important to UNICEF’s work, and demonstrate a company’s deep commitment to social responsibility.
UNICEF’s first project with the new corporate sponsorship is a fundraising campaign named Red Nose Day, which will reach culmination on 1 December with a live TV broadcast put together by Icelandic entertainers. People are encouraged to support deprived children around the world by purchasing a red clown’s nose and enrolling as a world parent.
