Samskip completes acquisition of Seawheel

18.8.2005

The acquisition of the UK shortsea intermodal operator Seawheel by the Icelandic shipping-to-logistics company Samskip was completed on 11 August following approval of the deal by European regulatory authorities.

According to Samskip's CEO Michael F Hassing, the company is now initiating a programme whereby Seawheel's activities will be integrated with those of Samskip and of Geest North Sea Line, the Dutch shortsea intermodal operator acquired by Samskip earlier this year:

"The combination of the Samskip, Geest North Sea Line and Seawheel shortsea operations will provide an overall improved service to the benefit of our customers."
Wout Pronk, Managing Director of Geest, added:

"We are all confident that the Samskip-Geest-Seawheel organisation will be a powerful force in the intra European shortsea shipping arena and that the best practices of the three companies will benefit customers, suppliers and personnel alike."
