Contract on erection and operation of a huge crane between Bechtel and Samskip
Bechtel, which builds the Alcoa Fjarðaálproject and Samskip have made a contract on erection and operation of a huge crane at the new Smelter harbor in Reyðarfjörður. It is an 18 month contract to supply, operate and maintain the Crane for the Project wharf. The crane is a Liebherr LHM400 and it weights 400 tons. The crane will be used to unload and load break bulk and container cargo from charter ships. Samskip will mobilize and erect the crane in July and be ready for operations by 30 July. Our first shipments will be arriving shortly thereafter in August. The crane is able to lift up to 104 tons.
