Iceland Service back to Varberg
Samskip will as from week 5 again call Varberg Terminal West with the Icelandic service.
This service was changed to call Halmstad as from week 01-2005. The main reason behind the original change was to combine Norwegian export via rail to Halmstad and achieve synergies from having two weekly services in the same port.
The rail operation did not work to satisfaction and the operations in Halmstad port have from the start been hit by delays as a result of a crane break down. Despite efforts from the port of Halmstad the service level did not meet the requirements of the Icelandic trade. It has therefore been mutually agreed between Samskip and the port of Halmstad to discontinue the cooperation on the Iceland service.
As from week 05-2005 the Icelandic service will be back to Varberg Terminal West. A rail connection from Oslo to Varberg has been found and the Norwegian export will continue to be combined with the Swedish.
Samskip has called the port of Varberg from the beginning of the entrance of the Swedish market and will be back in a port with experience and expertise on the Icelandic business.
Samskip´s weekly Scandinavia service between Holland, Sweden and the U.K. will continue to call Halmstad.
