New Samskip office opened in Ukraine
The beginning of the year saw the opening of Samskip's first office in the Ukraine. Located in the capital, Kiev, it will enable Samskip to offer house-to-house transport solutions for domestic shippers as well as international companies.
Directed from the company's Bremen office, the Ukrainian facility will specialize in particular in handling project cargoes, transport of complete factories, heavy lifts and oversized machinery/equipment, according to Samskip's managing director in Germany, Harald Dönselmann. "We are also focusing on extending already existing shipping activities into the Ukraine and on inland waterways, with direct shipments into the capital Kiev."
With three employees to begin with, the Kiev office will be managed by Ukraine-born Vladislav Bogomazov, who brings with him wide-ranging industry experience gained during his time with a German international forwarding company.
The Ukraine office will co-operate closely with company offices in Russia and the Baltic States, taking advantage of synergies wherever possible. "We now hold practically a unique position in being able to offer our clients transport to any destination within Russia, Ukraine, the Baltic States and the CIS countries via our own representatives, who are both highly educated and experienced in the individual markets. And taking into account that Ukraine, with a population of 48 million, is one of the fastest growing European economies, with GDP growth of 9.4% in 2003 and an estimated 12.4% in 2004, our presence there opens up a wide range of fresh opportunities," concludes managing director Harald Dönselmann.
