Samskip calls Aalborg, Denmark

Vessel call in Aalborg

October 31 saw the beginning of a new transport route as M/V Muuga, sailing on a fixed schedule for Samskip, called the port of Aalborg, Denmark, for the first time. Before Aalborg M/V Muuga called Terneuzen, Holland, and then continued to Halmstad and Wallhamn in Sweden as well as Immingham in the U.K.

Cooperation between transport company Vos Logistics, container terminal operator Arctic Container Operation, the port of Aalborg and Samskip was the key to this new call in Aalborg. "In the past the deliveries to the receiver were based on truckloads, the container solution ensures that the customer will obtain a far better supply chain, and as an extra bonus they avoid the long distances on the roads which will benefit the environment," says Samskip branch manager in Aarhus, Henrik Nielsen.

To begin with, this new route will be on a monthly basis but the frequency is expected to become weekly in year 2005. To begin with sailings will involve a designated receiver having their factory only 3 kilometres away from the Aalborg container terminal, but the aim is to attract other importers and exporters in the region.
