New office opens in China
November 1 saw Samskip open a new sales office in the Chinese port of Dalian, the third to be opened by the carrier in the Far East in less than two years.
The facility, which is managed by experienced local transport professional Rossi Chen, follows two others already operational in the region. Located in the South Korean port of Pusan and Qingdao, China, these will be followed next year by others in Thailand and Vietnam.
As home to some of the world's largest exporting nations, south-east Asia's importance to international transport operators is difficult to overstate. With over a fifth of the planet's population residing inside its borders, China alone is today not only a major exporter of electronic and consumer goods and clothing, but is also becoming one of the world's largest processors of frozen fish and other seafood.
According to Samskip vice president, global reefer logistics, Einar Thór Gudjónsson, the transport of frozen fish is at present the main activity of Samskip operations in China and south-east Asia.
"Qingdao and Dalian are both key ports in China's rapidly growing fish processing industry, and the volume of products passing through them has multiplied several times in the last few years," he explains.
"Samskip's goal is to become a global leader in transport and related services for the fisheries industry in China and south-east Asia, and our expansion in the region comes as part of this policy," he adds.
The new Samskip office in Dalian is located at Samskip LTD Dalian, Rainbow Building, No. 23 Renmin Road, Room 1203, Zhongshan District, Dalian, China. Tel. + 86 411 8256 2120, Fax + 86 411 8256 2140
