Samskip supports UNICEF
The final step was taken towards the permanent formation of a branch of the United Nations Children´s Fund (UNICEF) in Iceland on March 15, when Samskip joined three of the country´s largest companies in pledging financial support for the organisation´s local national committee.
Joining Samskip in the venture are generic pharmaceuticals manufacturer Pharmaco, retail and investment company Baugur, and multinational insurance operator Allianz, along with UNICEF Iceland.
The move means that the organisation´s future in the country is now secure, paving the way for the distribution of donations to children in need all over the world.
Founded in 1946, UNICEF is one of the UN´s most respected organisations. As well as contributing to UNICEF operations worldwide, the Iceland committee plans to raise national awareness of the organisation and its functions, including the terms and implications UN Children´s Charter.
