Replacement chartered for MS Helgafell
Samskip has chartered a vessel in Rotterdam to act as a temporary replacement for the MS Helgafell, which developed a technical fault 30 nautical miles west of the Norwegian port of Stavanger on February 1.
The replacement vessel is now on its way to Stavanger, where loading operations will begin on Thursday, and is due to dock in Reykjavík on Monday, February 9.
The Helgafell had just left the nearby port of Moss en route to Iceland when the fault developed. Weather conditions in the area were fine, and there was never any danger to the vessel's 11-man Icelandic crew. Escorted by a tug, the liner returned under its own power to Stavanger, from where it will sail to Denmark for repairs later this week.
With work on the vessel still to begin, it is too early as yet to say when the Helgafell will re-enter service, but every effort will be made to keep inconvenience to Samskip customers to an absolute minimum. Regular updates on the vessel and its progress will appear on the company's web site.
