Van Dieren Maritime to operate the former IKEA Railway

Van Dieren Maritime BV (IJsselmuiden), acquired at 80% by Samskip in September 2003, has been selected to operate the former IKEA railway, linking Sweden (Almhult) and Germany (Herne) for the next 2 years.Van Dieren Railway set-up

The Swedish home furniture company announced that, as from January 15th, Van Dieren Maritime BV will take over the operations of the IKEA railway in order to insure a continuing good service.

The railway terminal in Herne operates 24 hours a day and Van Dieren Maritime intends to transport around 14.000 FTL (Full Truck Load) this year on this service. The capacity is 30 FTL per trip and improvements are in process to increase it to 34. Van Dieren offers both trailers and containers, all of 33 europallets capacity.
