Samskip BV purchases 80% shares in Van Dieren Maritime
Samskip has significantly raised its profile in the transport markets of Northern Europe, the Baltic and Russia, following the company's purchase of a 80% share in non-vessel, inter-modal logistics provider Van Dieren Maritime BV. The remaining stock is retained by the company's management.
With offices in Holland and Latvia, Van Dieren operates a fleet of 50 trucks and trailers, 1,000 42ft and 45ft PW HC container units, and employs a workforce of around 50 employees.
Founded in 1959, Van Dieren Maritime today serves a route network linking the Baltic States and Russia as far east as the Ural Mountains with the UK, Sweden and the Benelux region.
Broadly speaking, the company's activities can be divided into short-sea and rail transport, and it was recently involved in the successful set-up of the IKEA AB rail link between Almhült and Duisburg.
According to Samskip president Ásbjörn Gíslason, the acquisition serves to consolidate Samskip's presence in Latvia, while opening up potentially new markets. At the same time, it is expected to prove of mutual benefit to both companies due to the high level of synergy it is likely to generate.
Van Dieren Maritime has a current turnover of around 10 million per year.
