Samskip concludes largest loan in company history
Samskip has announced the conclusion of an agreement with Icelandic bank Íslandsbanki on the largest single loan in the company's history.
Totalling of ISK 2.1 billion, the capital will be used to finance the building of the company's new headquarters and warehouse complex in Reykjavík, currently under construction and due for completion in September of next year.
“We are delighted to have completed this agreement with Íslandsbanki, and the loan ensures that we can fulfil our stated goal of moving into our new premises next autumn,” commented Samskip president (Iceland) Knútur G. Hauksson after signing the deal.
Speaking on behalf of Íslandsbanki, CEO Bjarni Ármannson said: “It's very pleasing for Íslandsbanki to participate in this important project, and by doing so play a role in helping Samskip in its efforts to achieve increased efficiency in its warehousing and logistics operations.”
The largest facility of its kind in Iceland, the steel-framed structure will incorporate the very latest in state-of-the-art warehousing, storage, distribution and office facilities.
At 240 metres long, the building is triple the length of the company's present Holtabakki headquarters. Covering a total area of 25,000m2, it will bring together for the first time all of the company's 450 Reykjavík employees under the one roof.
Designed by Reykjavík architects Arkís and built by local contractors Ístak, the structure, which will resemble a ship tied up in port waiting to be unloaded, is intended to reflect Samskip's image through its use of scale, form, building materials and colour.
