The legality of 45ft containers in the European intermodal marketplace: Samskip sets the record straight - 13.12.2006

The legality or otherwise of transporting 45ft containers on the European road network after 1 January 2007 has been the subject of much recent press coverage. Samskip would like to reassure its customers that all of its 45ft containers conform to the EU Directive 96/53 and therefore can be transported without hindrance by road, rail or barge throughout Europe. There is no question regarding their legality either now or in the future. Read more

Samskip places all of its global activities under one brand and introduces its new corporate identity - 2.10.2006

Samskip has confirmed that with effect from 30 September, 2006, it will be applying the Samskip brand to its entire global operations, thus phasing out the Geest North Sea Line name and also that of Seawheel, which was acquired by Samskip late last year. A distinctive corporate identity has been introduced and is being applied to all new ships, buildings, vehicles and equipment owned or operated by Samskip. Read more
 

Samskip takes over Odiel's shortsea activities in Spain - 21.9.2006

Samskip, the Iceland-based company that acquired Geest North Sea Line in 2005, has established its own organisation in Spain, taking over all shortsea activities from its existing partner, Odiel Bilbao SA. Samskip opens new office in South Korea - 21.4.2006

Samskip has opened a new office in Seoul, South Korea. The new office is Samskip´s fifth in Asia, with the company already operating offices in Pusan in South Korea, Dalian and Qingdao in China and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. Samskip now has 56 offices in 22 countries around the world. Read more

Generous donation toward the education of close to 5000 children in Sierra Leone - 12.4.2006

Olafur Olafsson, executive chairman of Samskip and his wife Ingibjorg Kristjansdottir, landscape architect recently gave a generous gift of over 500 thousand dollars, to the educational project of UNICEF in Sierra Leone. The gift will be used to build 50 schools in rural regions of Sierra Leone where close to 5,000 children between the ages of 6 - 9 will receive the foundational education. Read more
 

Geest North Sea Line restructures its Scandinavian and Baltic operations to meet demand for larger shortsea shipping capacity - 6.4.2006

Geest North Sea Line, which was acquired by the Icelandic company Samskip in 2005, is restructuring its operations in the Scandinavian and Baltic markets, including Russia, increasing capacity and providing for better integration between these former Samskip services and the established Geest intermodal network based on Rotterdam.
