Samskip upgrades services to the Faroes

Following the opening of its new office in Torshavn in the Faroes at the end of September, Samskip has now decided to increase the number of calls its ships make there. As from the second week in December, therefore, M/S Arnarfell and M/S Helgafell will call at Torshavn on their routes from Europe to Reykjavík. The first call will take place on 13 December. New vessel brings weekly sailings linking East Iceland, the Faroe Islands and mainland Europe - 23.6.2004

As the company's expansion continues, Samskip has added a new vessel to complement the M/S Skaftafell on its scheduled route linking Iceland, the Faroe Islands and mainland Europe. Its introduction increases the frequency of sailings between Reyðarfjörður in Iceland's Eastern Fjords and Klaksvík in the Faroe Islands from every two weeks to every week, creating a rapid direct link for fish exporters from both countries with South Humberside, one of Europe's main food processing regions, and Rotterdam, the continent's largest container port.

Samskip has concluded an agreement with Faroese transport operator Farmaleiðir, by which the company will service Samskip vessels in the port of Klaksvík and provide transport services for the company throughout the islands. Served by M/S Skaftafell, the service will be launched on April 1, with sailings every 14 days on the route, which also includes the east Iceland port of Reyðarfjörður, Immingham (England) and Rotterdam. 2003 - Growth at home and abroad - 4.3.2004

Samskip recorded a post-tax profit of ISK 366 million in 2003, a rise of ISK124 million from the previous year's figure of ISK 242 million. Total revenues of the company and its subsidiaries amounted to ISK 17.3 billion, an increase of ISK3.2 billion, or 23%, from 2002. About half of total turnover derived from operations outside Iceland. Operating income before depreciation rose by almost ISK 512 million between the years to reach just under ISK582 million, compared with ISK 70 million in 2002.
